Wildlife Governance Principles: Tools for Better Conservation (WGP-101)
1.5 Hour Live Webinar
Course Fee: None
The Wildlife Governance Principles (WGPs) were developed by combining public trust thinking and good governance norms into a set of ten aspirational statements that can be used to guide the practices and procedures that determine how decisions are made and implemented, and how responsibilities are exercised in wildlife conservation. The WGPs address strategic thinking and adaptability, use of evidence in decision-making, transparency and accountability, inclusiveness and diversity, and capacity for conservation. These principles represent guidance for ecologically and socially responsible wildlife conservation. They address persistent, systemic problems and, if adopted, will bring wildlife conservation organizations into line with modern expectations for governance of public natural resources.
This webinar provides you with an overview of the Wildlife Governance Principles and how they can be implemented and help organizations to better confront and address contemporary social–ecological issues. This interactive webinar introduces challenges and opportunities associated with the principles, and encourages dialogue about them.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Identify the drivers that led to the development of the Wildlife Governance Principles (WPGs)
- Define the ten WPGs
- Describe how the WPGs can benefit your State Fish and Wildlife Agency (SFWA)
- Identify ways to champion and integrate the WPGs
