Welcome to MAT – that’s short for the Management Assistance Team. We are a small, high-performing team that is part of the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. We’re funded by a multistate conservation grant and our offices are at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Think of us as an internal consultancy and training resource on retainer for all fifty state fish and wildlife agencies across the country. We don’t get into the critter side of things; the states’ professionals are world class in that regard. Our products and services concentrate on the agency administration or the people part of the equation. MAT helps state fish and wildlife agencies in the areas of organization development, public policy, leadership development, programmatic and comprehensive agency effectiveness reviews, and commission and board governance.
Now that we’ve been introduced, don’t be a stranger!

MAT is very privileged to staff the National Conservation Leadership Institute (NCLI). In its fourth year as the nation’s premier leadership development program for natural resource conservation professionals, the NCLI is truly a remarkable opportunity for all types of organizations to nominate folks who they believe have the capacity to really expand their leadership potential. More than training, a bunch of courses, or a program, the atypical NCLI is best described by its alumni as “a life changing experience.” Learn more about the ground-breaking NCLI by going to www.conservationleadership.org and discover how it is creating extraordinary leadership for the future of fish and wildlife conservation. |
