MAT Objectives Print E-mail
MAT has seven objectives under its Multi-state Conservation Grant funding effective until December 31, 2010. These objectives drive all of our activities and are prioritized and approved by the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies' Leadership and Professional Development Committee.
Project Objectives: (priority order)

  1. Create and implement a minimum of three new leadership development courses/workshops (one per year) and a minimum of three new tools (one per year) for states to use in their leadership and workforce planning efforts.

  2. Provide state fish and wildlife agencies with a minimum of ninety (thirty per year) management consultations focused primarily on helping them, and/or groups of state agencies, to develop/implement their leadership programs and meet their workforce planning needs.

  3. Manage and staff the National Conservation Leadership Institute (NCLI) to deliver world-class leadership development through three annual 10-month programs to108 highest potential leaders (Fellows) from the conservation community.


  4. Provide state fish and wildlife agencies with a minimum of sixty online leadership development courses and nine face-to-face workshops with an emphasis on train-the-trainers.

  5. MAT personnel will participate in a minimum of six training sessions or equivalent and stay current with literature relevant to our services.

  6. Provide outreach services to state fish and wildlife agencies on leadership development, organizational development, and public administration by maintaining three websites, producing quarterly newsletters, producing a minimum of three professional papers, a minimum of three professional presentations, and providing access to MAT’s book/video library to facilitate improving relevant knowledge within state fish and wildlife agencies.

  7. Administer the MAT program by tracking finances for program activities monthly, tracking time daily, managing personnel using annual performance appraisals, and strategically assessing program direction quarterly as well as perform other program administration functions.
