Action Learning Print E-mail

The courses and learning activities offered by MAT are developed with a strong action learning element to them. Many of us have known for some time that no matter how good the content of a workshop, classroom training alone is insufficient to accelerate the development of leaders in an organization. Action learning ensures the application of new skills to real work, producing maximum return on investment in learning. It also creates the opportunity for real impact through the projects that form the centerpiece of the exercises.

Definition: A process whereby employees accomplish a discrete organizational goal while learning new leadership skills.

  • Certain organizational factors indicated a good fit for individual and team-based action learning projects embedded in the leadership development curriculum;

  • Our agencies are very technical, having environments that breed managers who learn best by directly applying learning to work.

Our employees typically have an expectation of learning the practical application of tools and concepts, as opposed to only a theoretical understanding of them.

Action learning projects are structured to involve participants in organizational issues in such a way that they are required to stretch themselves beyond their day-to-day experience and knowledge comfort zones. Planning for these projects may begin in discussions with senior management several months before participants are assigned to them.

If training is needed, please contact us directly.
